Practice Newsletters

Dear Patients and Families,

We are marking the month that sees the ‘first anniversary’ of the Covid Pandemic. A year ago, who would have thought we would be still battling this. However, we have adjusted to ‘working remotely’ and with new IT systems it has been a revelation as to how much can be effectively achieved in phone or video consultations or by ’e-consult’. But, when people want or need to be seen in person, they will be. We ARE seeing people face to face. Because there is so much activity on the phones, there can sometimes be a wait to get through. Please help by calling about non-urgent matters in the afternoons rather than first thing in the morning. GPs are using their own mobiles to free up the landlines, so, if you are expecting a call, and you see ‘unknown number’ it is probably us! Please answer.

We want to ensure that no patient suffers disadvantage due to our not having correct contact details and we understand that some people might not have access to, or be able to use a mobile phone, and appreciate language issues. We are happy to speak to relatives, friends or carers when this is the case, with the permission of the patient.

We are pleased to welcome Nancy Houlihan as our new Practice Manager. She has worked in Hounslow CCG for a number of years. I am excited to be appointed as the new Practice Manager. Initially I will be ensuring we excel at the delivery of the covid vaccine programme, along with the rest of the Primary Care Network. My priority will always be to support the Kingfisher team to provide the best possible care for our patients and I am excited to get to know you all over the coming months”.

DR Tina Rajapakse, who joined us as a salaried GP last June is now a GP Partner. Dr Harriet Purvis, who was our GP Registrar last year, is now working as a salaried GP 1 day a week.

All three practices in Maswell Park have achieved over 80% of the ‘over 80s and care home residents’ and are steadily working through the ‘over 70s.’ This Saturday, nationally, 500,000 vaccines were done in a single day! The Heart of Hounslow Hub has been working very well, thanks due to Dr Su Roy of Willow Practice, who is Clinical Lead, and all the clinical and non-clinical staff from Maswell, who have given up days off to contribute.

We strongly urge you to take up the offer of vaccination when called. Covid is real! We have had patients who have become very ill indeed, and some have sadly died. Many are suffering a very slow recovery. Any side effects of vaccines really do pale into insignificance when compared with the risk of this horrible virus. Supplies of vaccine can be a bit erratic and we have had success in having a waiting list of patients happy to be called at short notice, to avoid vaccine being wasted at the end of a session. All of our staff have taken up the vaccine when offered, in order to protect our patients, our families, our colleagues, and of course ourselves.
